The opportunity to combine cultural theory and media culture in a design course is a special feature of our academy. The courses are therefore very theoretical and require students to undertake intensive analyses of media and its content. The ability to research, write, argue, study scientifically and reflect on the context of one's own work – all these aspects are as important as learning how to use computer programmes. Thanks to the small teaching groups, students can develop a close relationship with lecturers and individual support can be provided. We also boast excellent technical facilities and a friendly working and learning atmosphere. The staff at the Merz Akademie enjoy experimentation and are open to the wishes and ideas of their students.
The bachelor course in Art, Design and Media is aimed at first-year students. The course takes seven semesters and ends with the Bachelor of Arts.
The course includes the disciplines Film and Video, New Media and Visual Communication.
