Art, Design and Media

Film and Video, Interface Design and Visual Communication are the three fields of study covered by the bachelor programme "Art, Design and Media". In all three fields, both general and subject-specific skills relating to media design are taught. The focus is on promoting the ability to take a socially analytical approach to the development of concepts for successful communication. Standard length of study: 7 semesters; academic qualification: Bachelor of Arts.

Film and Video

Digital film is the tool we use to make statements about the world. We analyse the kind of visual language, dramaturgical, creative and technical means that have to be used to produce an appropriate filmic representation of a subject. Ever-present, ever-accessible digital images compel us to examine all the more closely the historic and current conditions and contexts of filmic methods before we push the record button. There are enough pixels in the world.

Student Projects Film and Video

Interface Design

Interface Concepts, Smart Objects, Games, Web Design, Computational Design, Immersive Environments – these are the subjects of the Interface Design field of study. This is not about stylish surfaces, market potentials or producing a new trend product as quickly as possible. Software and hardware are taken apart intellectually, digitally and in real terms, as are the circumstances that have created them. What is the point? What falls by the wayside? Who wins? This kind of research gives rise to useful tools for interactive communication, their properties are conceived as an answer to our own questions.

Visual Communication

The purpose of this course is to develop and design visual communication, i.e. communication that appeals to the eye. This includes the traditional field of Graphic Design, in other words, the design of print and other carrier media. However, the course also covers the design of visual concepts for electronic media and internet and the design of graphic and typographic elements in moving image media (animation, title design, etc.).
