Merz Akademie, University of Applied Art, Design and Media, Stuttgart, Germany, welcomes Maura Jasper as visiting professor, funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). She works as an artist in the fields of design, film, performance and pop music. Her interdisciplinary profile is a great gain for our students.

Maura Jasper is a visual artist and filmmaker whose work explores pop cultures and mass media as influences that inform our individual and collective sense of self. Her work has been exhibited at Artist’s Space (New York, NY), Vox Populi (Philadelphia, PA), and the Institute for Contemporary Art (Boston, MA) amongst others. Her recent screenings include Electronic Arts Intermix (New York, NY), AntiMatter Film Festival (Vancouver,BC), and the Athens International Film and Video Festival (Athens, OH). She has been in residence at the Corporation of Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, NY, the Wassaic Project, Wassaic, NY, and Elsewhere Collaborative in Greensboro, NC. She is a 1998 NYFA Fellow in Video. She lives in Muncie, Indiana where she is an Assistant Professor of Intermedia Art at Ball State University since 2008.

Amongst the various lectures Jasper will be teaching at the Merz Akademie in the bachelor and master program, one seminar titled „Particpatory TV“ will enable students to create content for a series of “televised” events for live video streaming. The group will conceptualize program/events and produce video, sound, set and performed content to be streamed live.

Maura Jasper was DAAD guest professor at the Merz Academy and realised the 24-hour TV event "Sign on / Sign off".

Dr. David Quigley, professor of aesthetic theory and head of the master program: “I am really happy that we were able to get the DAAD grant for Maura Jasper to come over here. Her process-oriented, interdisciplinary and collaborative approach will be a real addition to our faculty and a great chance for our students to experience a different perspective.”

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) awards teaching scholarships funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to international guest professors at German universities to promote the international exchange and academic collaboration of higher education institutions.
