Job Announcement: Professorship in Visual Communication/Illustration

The Merz Akademie is a state-recognized, non-profit university for applied art, design and media with approximately 250 students. The fields of Film and Video, New Media and Visual Communication are considered distinct but closely related areas of study.

One of the strategic goals of the Merz Akademie is to increase the proportion of women in management, teaching and research. Applications from women for the following position are therefore particularly welcome.

Professor Visual Communication, Focus on Illustration (f/m/d, W2, 80% FTE)

We are looking for a designer with a nationally and internationally respected practice as well as university pedagogical experience and a special ability to work collaboratively across departments. Illustration is understood in particular as a digital competence, which also includes moving formats. We expect aesthetic experimentation, media reflexivity and a pronounced affinity to cultural and socio-critical theory formation.

The courses offered by the professorship are aimed at all students of the B.A. program “Gestaltung, Kunst und Medien” and are also intended to build a bridge to the fields of Film and Video as well as New Media.

The tasks also include participation in research projects, external cooperations and in the administration of the university. Good German and English language skills are desired. The position is initially limited to two years; the goal is a permanent employment after a positive evaluation. Remuneration will be according to the TVL W2 tariff. Formal requirements of employment according to § 47 Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-Württemberg apply.

The position starts in the summer semester 2023. We are looking forward to receiving your digital application with curriculum vitae, samples of work and other relevant documents until September 15, 2022. In case of an interview at the university, we expect the presentation of a teaching and research concept and the naming of work related references.
