Dr. Barbara M. Eggert

Vita

Barbara M. Eggert studied German philology and art history at the University of Hamburg. She received her doctorate in 2009 with her dissertation “Decus et doctrina – Studien zur Funktion mittelalterlicher Parameter (13. bis 16. Jahrhundert)”. This was followed by a Master’s degree in Lifelong Learning/Museum Education and a degree in Law at the Humboldt University in Berlin.

Eggert’s professional career took her to the University of Art and Design Linz at the Institute for Art and Education, where she worked as a university assistant (post doc) in teaching and research, and to Danube University Krems, where she worked as a program director in the field of art and cultural studies. Other important stations included the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) and the Vitra Design Museum. Barbara M. Eggert has been part of the core team of the international NEXTCOMIC festival since 2019. She is Rector of the Merz Akademie since 2023.

With her design research-relevant focus on text & image, she is well connected through her many years of international lecturing and publishing activities in the fields of Textile Studies, Museum Studies and Comics Studies. An overview of her publications and contributions can be found here:
