Services – Merz Akademie

The Merz Akademie cooperates with the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart. With a broad range of services, the Studierendenwerk supports students in their everyday studies and advises them in social, cultural and economic matters. 35 residential complexes with more than 7,200 places offer affordable living space, and inexpensive food is available in eight canteens and nine cafeterias. In one of the eight day-care centres, young people can be looked after and there are comprehensive counselling options on BAföG, personal, social or legal questions and problems. The Studierendenwerk is financed by a solidarity contribution from all students of the cooperating universities.

Students of the Merz Akademie can take advantage of the courses offered by University Sports Stuttgart at student rates.
The aim of University Sports Stuttgart is a multifaceted, high-quality and cost-effective sports and exercise offer. The sports program should be motivating and balance the study- or the work-life.

The cafeteria serves snacks and coffee as well as a daily selection of fresh and healthy lunch dishes. Not only students of the Merz Akademie and pupils of the Merz Berufskolleg für Grafik-Design can eat here, external visitors are also welcome.

The cafeteria is open daily between 10 am and 4 pm.

Library

The library consists of a current canon of literature and media from the four areas of study. The library is focused on the theory and practice of art and design, as well as cultural theory in the broadest sense. Alongside the regional library, there are numerous other libraries in Stuttgart available for use by those studying at the Merz Akademie.

Rental

Here students can lend equipment from the fields of digital and analogue photography, 4K video, sound and lighting. In addition, extensive technical equipment is available for presentations and events. The selection ranges from beamers and disco balls to sound systems and is constantly being expanded.

In addition to the in-house rental service, students at the Merz Akademie have access to the media and equipment rental service of the neighbouring Stadtmedienzentrums.
