Dr. Barbara M. Eggert becomes rector of the Merz Akademie

We are looking forward to welcoming Barbara M. Eggert, who will take up the position of Rector of the Merz Akademie on February 1, 2023. The Senate of the Merz Akademie approved the proposal of the Search Committee on Nov. 25, 2022.

I combine my sincere congratulations with my best wishes for her upcoming term of office and for the continued positive development of Merz Akademie.

Dr. Barbara M. Eggert has worked in the field of higher education development for many years, currently at the University of Art in Linz in the Institute for Art and Education. Barbara M. Eggert earned her doctorate in art history from the University of Hamburg. Professional stations lead her, among others, to the Donau University Krems, where she was head of the study program for art and cultural studies. With her focus on text & image, which is relevant to design research, she is well connected through her many years of international lecturing and publishing activities in the fields of Textile Studies, Museum Studies and Comics Studies. As rector of the Merz Akademie, she will be responsible for the academic affairs of the university from Feb. 1, 2023. The term of office is five years.

The current rector of the Merz Akademie, Maren Schmohl, will move to the Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd as rector in January 2023.
