Zoe Schmidt wins the Meduc Award

Merz Akademie student Zoe Schmidt wins the grand prize in the print category of the Meduc Award, a competition for young media professionals, with her work “Wo ist das Problem?” (Where’s the problem?). Congratulations!

“Wo ist das Problem?” was created as part of a semester project led by photography professor Anja Weber. Zoe Schmidt dedicated her photo project to the Technisches Hilfswerk (THW), an institution that performs indispensable work in crises yet often remains invisible.

With an exceptionally sensitive photographic style, she gives the volunteer helpers a stage that is often denied them in everyday life. The clear, emotional image compositions not only make their achievements visible, but also convey the human depth and strain behind every assignment. The result is a project that goes far beyond documentation: it honors a commitment that works behind the scenes but is invaluable to society.
