OPEN DOORS. OPEN MINDS. A comic book project by the Stuttgart–Cardiff town twinning association

To mark the 70th anniversary of the town twinning between Stuttgart and Cardiff, students from the Merz Academy and the University of South Wales have collaborated on a comic book project.

In October 2025, we traveled to Cardiff to explore our Welsh twin city. In workshops and encounters with Welsh fellow students, we collected stories set against a backdrop of medieval architecture and the contemporary cultural scene.

These experiences gave rise to individual comics – from Stuttgart and Cardiff. The works combine personal encounters with social issues: What does it mean to arrive? How do we open doors? On March 13, the joint exhibition with the Cardiff delegation will open at the StadtPalais Stuttgart, and we will celebrate the release of the joint publication as part of the Stuttgart Comic Days.
