We introduce the Merz Akademie in an introductory lecture and show current student projects. The subsequent tour of the Greenbox, Virtual Reality Lab, Sound Studio, Screen Printing Shop and Photo Studio provides a comprehensive insight into the daily work at the Merz Akademie.
In all three areas of study at the Merz Akademie – Film and Video, New Media and Visual Communication – both general and discipline-specific media design skills are taught. The outstanding technical equipment at the academy enables professional work in the various workshops, and manageable groups ensure individual support for each student.
The focus of the teaching is on the examination of aesthetic, cultural and scientific content. The aim of this combination of theory and practice is to train students as authors who communicate through a wide variety of media that they create. After the seven-semester degree programme, graduates possess not only design skills, but above all content-related skills. They are thus optimally qualified for their professional future in the field of media design and communication.
