Prof. Kevin B. Lee

Vita

Kevin B. Lee ist Filmemacher- und Kritiker aus Chicago. Von der Süddeutschen Zeitung als Pionier des Genres bezeichnet, produzierte Lee in den letzten 10 Jahren über 360 online publizierte Video-Essays. Mit „Transformers: The Premake“ entwickelte er das Genre weit über bestehende Formate hinaus zu einem zeitgemäßen Instrument visueller und medialer Kritik. Der Film lief auf vielen Festivals, das Sight & Sound Magazin wählte ihn unter die besten Dokumentarfilme 2014.

2017 wurde Lee der erste Harun-Farocki-Stipendiat am gleichnamigen Institut in Berlin und forschte dabei zu ISIS-Propagandavideos. Er war Mitbegründer der Film-Website fandor.com und schrieb u.a. für die New York Times, Sight & Sound, Slate und Indiewire. Lehrerfahrung sammelte er an der School of the Art Institute in Chicago, der Universität von Illinois und der Goethe Universität in Frankfurt.
