Incoming student Kuan Lin Chen receives a paper art scholarship from Galerie Stihl Waiblingen

01.08.2026

Kuan Lin Chen, photographer, artist, and incoming student at our partner university, Taipei National University of the Arts (Taiwan), has been awarded the 2026 Paper Art Scholarship. The scholarship, which includes a residency, is awarded by Galerie Stihl, the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation, and the City of Waiblingen. Congratulations!

The Stihl Gallery in Waiblingen on the scholarship for emerging artists awarded to Kuan Lin Chen:

In the work of Taiwanese artist Kuan Lin Chen (born 1997), paper plays an important role—albeit from the perspective of a photographic artist. Kuan Lin Chen studied at the National University of the Arts in Taipei and explores paper through photographic documentation, collected materials, and experimental forms, focusing on its social and material history. Through local field research, he traces the life cycle of paper, from forestry to the sheet of paper as a vessel for memories.

The scholarship recipients will present their work from July 25 to October 18, 2026, in an exhibition at the Galerie im Kameralamt (Lange Straße 40, 71332 Waiblingen).

About the Stipenium
The Paper Art Fellowship focuses on the art of drawing and the medium of paper in all its forms. A distinctive feature of the fellowship is its intergenerational nature: established artists—specifically, the principal fellow—serve as mentors to emerging artists during their residency in Waiblingen. The direct exchange among the artists regarding techniques and working methods, as well as the networking opportunities for the artists, are key components in fostering the next generation of artists.
