Prof. Mario Doulis visits Japanese universities

Prof. Mario Doulis, IcD Tohuku

During his stay in Japan our New Media Professor Mario Doulis visited Prof. Dr. Yoshifumi Kitamura at his Interactive Content Design Lab at the Research Institute of Electrical Communication (RIEC) at Tohuku University in Sendai, where he gave a talk about his work as a designer and researcher in the field of 3D user interface and interaction, and the role of design in the research process. Prof. Kitamura and his team presented actual projects of the lab, and some options for future collaboration were discussed.

Prof. Doulis also had the opportunity to visit the facilities of the Advanced Acoustic Information Systems lab of RIEC, where Prof. Dr. Sakamoto and his team do research in the field of human auditory information processing (e.g. sound localization and psychoacoustics).

It was very inspiring. Prof. Kitamura and his team work on a wide range of very interesting projects. I’m very happy that I had the opportunity to visit his lab.

Mario Doulis also met with Prof. Dr. Arimura (director) and Mr. Iwaki (administrative director) of the Waseda Institute of Advanced Studies (WIAS) at Waseda University in Tokyo, a partner institute of the Zukunftskolleg of the Unversity of Konstanz.

It was a pleasure to visit WIAS. Another great institution I had the opportunity to visit. Here young researchers can do their research in an independent environment that is not attached to any other institution. Thanks to Zukunftskolleg Konstanz for making the contact.
