Who is my neighbour? A Multimediated Inquiry Into The South African Coloured Identity

This project explores Coloured identities in South Africa through an experimental multimedia installation combining audio, text, photography, video, and archival material. Through practice-based artistic research, it centres the stories and reflections of Coloured individuals who share their lived experiences of being Coloured during and after apartheid. Drawing on social constructionist theory and the concept of creolisation, the work understands Coloured identity as dynamic, culturally produced, and shaped through community and lived experience.

In her experimental multimedia installation, which combined audio, text, photography, video, and archival material, Master’s graduate Zoé Kellermann (on the right in the picture) explored the identity of Coloured people in South Africa.
