DAAD Study Visit of Jarek Bujny at Merz Akademie

05.10.2020

The aim of the “Futurope” project, which will now be continued in the winter semester, is to analyze the visual identity of Europe – as for example on banknotes, campaigns, corporate identity – and to question the role of the designer as author in such a communication process. On this basis, existing and new messages on topics relevant to Europe (refugee policy, climate change) will be formulated and visualized. With the project, Bujny also wants to bring together the views of different nationalities and therefore works with students of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn and finally with students of the Merz Academy on the same topic.

From October to December 2020, Jarek Bujny will continue his research work at the Merz Akademie, establish personal contact with the participating students and prepare possible exhibitions and a publication.

Jarek Bujny, PhD, is a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn and a guest lecturer at the Academy of Arts in Gdansk. He has been working as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator for over 20 years. He organized and curated 14 exhibitions in Poland, Germany, France and Canada so far and has himself exhibited his posters, which mostly deal with social, socio-political issues, in a number of solo and group exhibitions all over the world.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) awards teaching scholarships funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to international guest professors at German universities to promote the international exchange and academic collaboration of higher education institutions.
